on the horizon

2016 means a lot to many uh.

I know some going around saying there's so many deaths in 2016 or this year sucks because *etc* *etc* *etc*. You know what, that's part of life. For me, I want to celebrate life in 2016.

I just want to share my year basically. Just hear me out, even if you have different beliefs than me, because I believe everyone has a story to tell. This is to prove that there's a human side in us after all.

I think it's quite obvious that 2016 have been quite eventful year for me, which is quite evident when you have social media for easy reference.

Even the year before, I already set out many resolutions and I am glad that I was able to achieve a few that I set out to do. All because of God's grace. Like timlimproject gigs, wedding and ministry. At the same time, I am upset that there's a lot of resolutions I didn't execute properly or worse, didn't even do. I can be my worst critic so sometimes I can be angry with himself for those failures.

There are days I feel like giving up, in fact I was quite close in throwing the towel for everything and prepared myself to press the reset button. I was very close. Finger-on-the-button-already close. I shared with a brother that I really wanted to. At some point, I thought I am shooting myself (not literally, don't worry) for deciding to comeback to work at West Malaysia. But somehow God intervene. Somehow.

There are days where I was unhappy with a lot of things and people. I lost myself in emotions and again, I was close to throwing the towel to release myself (and people i love) from the agony. I feel sometimes those emotions affects me too much until I let it affect people around me especially my wife. But I thankful for her and my friends for sticking up to me.

There are days I wished I treat people around me a bit better and give my attention to. The tricky part about my life, everyone wants a piece of me. I wished I can clone myself. Or slowdown time.

There are days I wished I have done things better, properly and wisely. There are days deep inside, I feel so broken. There are days I feel angry with all the limitations that people (or even myself) have placed on me. There are times I feel hurt and annoyed by some people's attitude (in or outside church) so sometimes it takes a lot of me to faced these. Sometimes I dug even deeper even when I hit rockbottom emotionally, to get myself up. There are moments I wondered why I got myself into this nightmare.

Don't worry, all is in the past and all is forgiven. I made peace with the fact that nothing in life is ever perfect. There's always bumps and thorns.

All in all, in tough moments, I realized God intervenes somehow.

It's through ups and downs of life that thought me to stay focus and firm on God. Looking on the bright side, there's a lot to balance out those tough moments.

Being engaged and then married a wonderful woman. We have our ups and downs like any couple, but putting God in the center of our marriage is very crucial. Our relationship have thought me a lot about what love is all about and God is all about. It's something I wished every couple would learn. I cannot asked for a better life than this. Love you my wife Audrey.

Being made a pastor also brings the best out of me too. Great powers comes great responsibility, they say. I don't see myself being a priest in-charge but what God given to me now, I just hope I can be up to that task of being a servant of Him to His people. That being said, I worked hard in ministry despite limited resources. I know I serve a big God, even when the odds are against me and the ministry and even when my boss has other ideas about me and other things. I always tell myself that I won't want to be bother by such things because I know I can count on God to pull something beyond everyone's imagination. Where I go from here now, I will keep it between me and God. I will hear what He wants me to do. I know as much as man has plans, God has better plans for me. I just wished some people understand that. To those who understood, I am grateful.

I never want to be a pastor who is "holier than thou art"-kind. I just can't do that, I just want to be real as I am -- a child of God, a servant of God, a friend to all. That became very evident when there was one day, I sat down in same table with people of different belief and race. Some vaped, some drink while I just enjoying my food and drink. Yet I just being myself to them talking about music and life, yet they called me pastor although I feel awkward about it. For people outside church circle to call me pastor, that meant a great deal to me. All this reminds me so much of what Jesus went through in Mark 2:13-17. This all reminds me why I am happy to be doing music and living what God planted in me.

Nevertheless, I know God will bless when we stay faithful in what we have or given, so that is what I am going to do. I just want to be a faithful steward and servant.

That brings me to my music side. I never see this as "nothing better to do" or "because some things in life doesn't pay well". No. It's always been an extension of my passion and love for God. It's more than a hobby, it's life. As I mentioned in my post about timlimproject gigs, I thank God for His grace. I made a lot of wonderful friends in that journey, which inspires me to be a better musician/artist for God. I am grateful for every opportunity to be out there, to a point where I enjoyed each time I am out there. The feedback and testimony I experience is incredible, it's very much a confirmation of what I am doing is right. You just know it. That's life.

I am looking forward to exciting journey in this. I am writing new materials, now praying for the right time to release them someday. My creativity is waiting to burst out. Anyway, my 2nd albums stock in my house has finished. You have look elsewhere in shops. I still have plenty of first album to go around though. So yea. Whether next is a full album, EP or just single, I am not sure, let's see.

I am still young and while I have life, I want to do as much as I can.

There are many blessings which eventually points that God is watching over me (and us). He has His own way of blessing people which no one can explain. Like I said, I just want to be a faithful steward and servant of God in handling whatever He has given to me.

What I looking forward to do in 2017, to improve on my 2016 shortcomings and build on what is done in 2016, basically. I hope to get some time to rest as well, perhaps at this point of typing, I feel as though I poured my life into everything that I have been doing. I need to recuperate emotionally and spiritually. That's the plan so far..

A few things I learn which I hope I can share with you to encourage you to look ahead towards 2017..

1) Plan your year. I know some might think, screw resolutions because you never get it done. No, don't do that. There's a saying that goes "if you fail to plan, you plan to fail". Get it plan out even it seems very impossible at that moment. You never know how God open doors.

2) Be faithful in small things. There's the constant lesson and it has brought me this far.

3) You cannot control what people think and talk. Humans will always be humans, sometimes they never understand the journey that you are actually going through. Just stand firm. Do what God has set in your heart. Throughout the year, I faced critics and doubters if ever those things can be done. There were moments I regret I listened to some, there were moments where I am glad that I didn't listened to some. At the end of the day, remember what is written in Psalm 20:7 -- "Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God".

4) You don't owe anything to anyone or to the world. Smile and wave. Enjoy the journey.

5) Enjoy your life and NEVER compare yourself to anyone else. Everyone have their own journey.

6) If you want change, BE THE CHANGE. No point talking so much but you are not ready for it.

7) Eventually, the best reference of life is in Matthew 5:3-12, known as The Beatitudes. Read it and it gives a different perspective of life.

To end, I want to apologize if I failed you as a son, as a friend, as a brother, as a pastor, as a leader, as a mentor, as a human. I also wanna thank all of you for being there for me. There were a lot of moments of inspiration which I am thankful for, which often you all are part of it. There were many beautiful moments we have that I won't forget in a hurry.

Thank You God for this life.

Cheers for 2016. 2017 will be better, for you and me.

thank you 2016

2017 is around the corner. Here's a super #throwbackthursday on timlimproject's 2016 gigs journey.

One of my 2016 resolution is to get this music/gig train running again after some quiet time in KK. I set out to do it, with a prayerful heart. Looking back, I am grateful to God for His grace in fulfilling that resolution.

There were lots of memorable moments and I am thankful for it. I am grateful for all the friends I made throughout this journey. They are wonderful and their love for music inspires me to be better.

2017 is going to be awesome. I just can feel it. Anyway, please follow Tim Lim for the updates. There's ideas waiting to be shared, time will tell what it is all about.

A huge thanks for all the support and love. Cheers and much love.

Luminous throwback

There is so many happenings these few days so I know this comes late.

Luminous event was literally luminous. Event was more than "lit". The "thank you" list will be long but I really wanna thank everyone that came and those direct or indirectly involved in many areas of this wonderful night. We all really light up the atmosphere.

When it went on FB live awhile...

Food trucks!

The amount of preparation put in was crazy. I am quite humbled by the effort despite the shortcomings. I love my church. I wish people would appreciate them more than they should.

Had a fun time in "lighting and music" segment too. I did 2 slots, Rebecca Lo and Grace Pang took one each. Both did well. I had fun especially in the 2nd slot which leads up to Christmas countdown.

A video posted by Tim Lim (@timlim12) on

one of the walkthrough scene.Stay tuned for more pictures once it's up on FCC FB.

Even though the night was fun and all, my prayer is that the message of being the light of the world impacts and inspire you to be one.

Before Jesus was born, hope seems lost and the world was in darkness. His coming has brought light and those who knows the light are called to experience Him fully and to live it out that light.

Let's light up this world when all seems groom and dark.

Looking forward towards greater things to come.

Boxing day roadtrip

It was my in-laws' plan. Alston especially.

After sort advice from Jackson and a bit of online research, we went Tg Sepat and dropby Sepang to do a bit of sight-seeing and enjoying the outskirts of Selangor.

We left close to lunchtime because all of us pretty much tired after a long Christmas weekend. I know we lost some hours of walking around but I guess it's a blessing in disguise in some ways. Turned out that, as the day went on, it wasn't that bad.

Among the discovery is this famous pau shop nearby Tg Sepat. People were lining up for this. It's tasty, that tells why people made a beeline for this.

Beach scenery is always beautiful.

Basically, this roadtrip is worth one day. It was nice though.

groundeatery gig

"Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven" -- matthew 5:16

Apart from singing, i think it's my first time sharing about the gospel in public. It's Christmas, it's a wonderful time to share the Gospel to a world where often despair dominates the headlines.

1 week to Christmas

Today was rather interesting. The office got a news on Friday night that they may be a powercut on Sunday, so we prepared as much as we can (mentally and physically) for it. Turns out there wasn't any disruption throughout the whole day. Sort of relief.

Well, leading up to Christmas and 2017, there's a lot of preparation needed, which means, every now and then, some people get panic. A lot of thoughts going on in my mind as well.

There's one sermon from Canon KheeVun that always sticks in my mind about Christmas/Advent. It's not merry.. but it's messy Christmas because 2000 years ago, the world is a mess before Jesus was born.

The world today is still a mess. We are too. That's why we need Him. Peace has come so let it come to our hearts, let that hope illuminate our path.

sing and sing on

Yesterday, I was very much inspired again as singer-songwriter, after watching "sing" (btw, best movie from Illumination animation since Despicable me imo) and also performing at the Speak.

Sometimes I know this path is not easy and I often faced so many doubts but I still believe in what God has planted in my heart. I think what happened yesterday is one way God reminded me not to give up easily. Just strive and thrive. Let Him be the center of everything you do.

Looking onwards, I really need prayer and support, I can't do this alone. However, in terms of trusting God, I believe there's exciting things ahead. I always do.

Nevertheless, looking forward to Christmas!

DEC gig : the Speak

Had a fun time at #SpeakFreely.

Hearing people humming along to the songs really made the atmosphere awesome. The rest of the performers were awesome too.

Thanks Shaneil for the slot and loaning me the guitar when my own had some hiccups. The gig tonight really inspired me as a singer-songwriter

Next gig : 23rd Dec at groundeatery!

See you there and check my fb page for more details or the hashtag #timlimproject

5th Dec

Last night I took my wife out and spoilt her to bits because of love.

Seeing her happy face means the world to me. Sometimes, I asked myself what I can do to keep that face forever?

That thought probably got my Monday a bit emotional. There are days where I feel I deserve better in life where I wished I am in better working environment or situation. I won't go further about it, sometimes some people can't face the truth. Or sometimes I asked myself what if I have done other things? Then that led me to so many thoughts.

It all come down to a thought I realized why sometimes decision is so hard to make because we need to ask a question of who do we do it for... or who do we live our life for... ourselves or God (thus, the bigger picture of life)?

I preached over the weekend and one point I made is quite similar to that.. are we selfish and selfless? The world often hype up the feeling of self-achievements and sometimes we miss that bigger picture of life. Worse, God is left at some corner of our brains.

I guess I need God to show me what is it for in the future. There are thoughts, there are doubts. But my heart is certain that as long God leads, there I will go.

Not easy but we'll get there somewhere.

I know I have so many thoughts inside me but sometimes it's hard to get it out. That sometimes contribute to my emo-ness.

Worse, Mourinho made the worse substitution last night in the EPL match. Totally spoiled my mood. Looks like a good cup run is all we can look forward to.

Christmas coming... let's see....

1st dec

"Back to reality" they say...

Back to normal life after a crazy tour-like banquets in Ipoh and KK... all the wedding-hype, if you get what I mean...

Anyway, once again, thank you all for your support on our wedding. All in all, it went well.

When dust is settled, it hits us that now we are husband-wife. Getting used to it and we can only trust that God has plans for us.

Meanwhile... Christmas is coming...

Tribute to Rev Victor

Earlier today, I was having my lunch when i got the message that rev Victor Leong passed away. I was taken aback by the news for a few minutes and I needed to double-check with Ps Danny about the news. To learn a priest passed away is like knowing your fellow soldier has fallen in battle.

Even though he is an old skol guy but i learn a lot from him during my 2 years in KK. He has my respect in handling the tough scenario in ASC. It's not easy especially with his health situation but there's reasons why God put him in ASC. Often he is misunderstood even though he meant well.

I treasure my time serving alongside him because it gives me another perspective of serving as he has served in many churches. He always encouraged me in my studies and ministry as well. All in all, I had a good time serving with him. The last we contacted each other was on my wedding day when he prayed for God's blessings for me and Audrey and apologized for unable to make it to my KK banquet. His blessings meant a lot to my wife and I because he also knows my in-laws well too. In fact, he baptized Audrey.

Knowing he passed away on the day when i am flying back from KK is a sad moment for me. But i know it is much difficult time for the family as well. My condolences to mrs Leong, Jonathan, Caleb, Ivan and Gloria. May God's peace be upon you all.

I thank God for the opportunity to serve alongside you. You are now in a better place where there's no more suffering. Your service to God is a legacy for this Diocese. Thank you Rev Victor Leong for your guidance and i will see you on the other side someday.

6 days away

last weekend as a "single" man. It was stressful, not because wedding preparation but by ministry actually. I guess it's all warming up in case of anything.

Last weekend before we "upgrade" to "married" status. Yes, our tired faces tells it all, isn't it. But we are treasuring the journey so far.
Anyway, I am trying to be relaxed even though there's a lot coming up. It's all good yo.

countdown : 6 days.

1 week away

Recently I lost my respect for two elderly person. It's hard for me to learn that these people can be two-faced. I wish sometimes I can cut them off from my life but situation I cannot control (or have a say) , I have to be stuck with such people until God performs a miracle I guess.

There are days where some people are just like bad news and it's frustrating that nothing can be done with such people. But sometimes I am reminded that I am surrounded by a lot of positive people which outweigh all the negativity.

Sometimes it's hard to be positive but we have to. It's not naive-ness, it's just being wise and choose not to be affected by them.

And I'm just holding on to hope that life can only get better, because of God

"Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer" -- Romans 12:12

911 or 119

The internet said Americans will remember 9/11 and 11/9 now....

I won't wanna dwell in this whole discussion about politics. Not my thing. But I believe there's purpose all this is happening.

Believe is one word I have getting used to these days. In the recent zone prayer meeting, even Gavin pointed out the rhema word is BELIEVE. In prayer, believe is the key word. Matthew 21:22 affirms that.

Coupled with a few blessings and testimonies I heard recently about weekend worship services. All glory to You God!

Wonderful reminder from God in looking ahead towards 2017. Final quarter of the year has been always preparing thoughts for next year and I am excited. For life, ministry, music. May God bless it!

Keep praying. Keep BELIEVING.

*off preparing for gig tonight.
