#TL2019moviewatch : Jumanji:Next Level

First movie was fun, second movie is fun too.

But it's fun in its own way though it may not be as adventurous as previous.

The fun part for me that how the mismatch of avatars happened. If you are avid gamer, you would understand some of those jokes.

#TL2019moviewatch : Frozen 2

Frozen 2 caught me by surprise with the quality of the animation, story-line and songs. But between those I mentioned, I would probably say the songs in it are really good.

Olaf as usual is the scene-stealer... and that 80s music in one scene really got LOL-ed. Abt songs again, it is infectious.. especially that high pitch voice thing.. when everyone left the cinema, i overheard some ppl doing it.. okayyy

I give it 8/10

#TL2019moviewatch : Charlie's Angels

"Good morning Angels"
"Good morning Charlie"

One of the most iconic catchphrase in cinema history.

A franchise that is quite iconic as well, from the classic TV series to movies.

Now, they attempt to reintroduce it to a new generation of cinema goers... and results?

It seems it bombs badly in the cinema but personally, I am having mixed review about it.

Storyline and premise was promising. But the movie was underwhelming in some parts for me.

Action sequence was arguably okay only. I felt could have done better. So does the acting.. it was passable. Not the worst but somehow something is missing. At least we get to see a different side of Kristen Stewart.

I somehow realized this year have been a bad year of "soft reboots" - Terminator, MIB, X-Men (if you consider it so) and now this... it is poor attempt if you ask me and I feel the studio have missed the core reason why these movies were good in the past and trying to repackage it with their own agenda while disregarding the real essence of it. To be honest too, the marketing for this was surprisingly poor.

Or we audience are simply tired of rebootssssss...

Back to the movie, apart from the promising storyline and some fun every now and then, there's nothing much to shout about. Oh, maybe cameos and nods the movie have perhaps could interest you la...

6.8/10 - just ok la.

#TL2019moviewatch : Terminator Dark Fate

While another entry means a lot of timeline/plot mess to explain, Terminator Dark Fate was action packed all the way. Much more interesting to watch compare to their previous outings.

#TL2019moviewatch : Maleficent 2

When Disney (or any movie studios) make unnecessary sequels, there's always skepticism in me.

However, Maleficent 2 is surprisingly interesting to watch, especially how they were able to expand the story.

Angeline Jolie stands out yet again while another veteran actress, Michelle Pfeiffer nearly stole the limelight with quite a weighty role.

While at some point, things got predictable but it caught my attention enough to follow through. At least I find it enjoyable than the first one.

RATING : 7.5/10

#TL2019moviewatch : Joker

So I watched the most discussed and controversial movie in recent weeks

Certainly it's one of those most deep yet poetic movie I've seen. There are a lot of emotions stirred in this movie and you gotta be prepared for it. There's a lot for me to digest and reflect as it addresses a lot of today's issues around the world, from mental health to relationships to politics. I am happy to discuss with anyone personally about this movie because there are a lot of points for discussion.

I have watched many versions of Gotham before so to see how they use it to reflect the reality of life certainly is scary as it is grounded and realistic. Certainly not for the faint-hearted by the way at some point of the movie.

What Joaquin Phoenix did here is scary but it is a performance worthy of any recognition.

TL rating : 9/10 largely to Phoenix's performance

A movie that stands out in 2019, and probably for some time too.

#TL2019moviewatch : Angry Birds 2

When I first saw the trailer, I always ask the question of "is it necessary that a sequel is needed?"

Turns out, well, while clearly it's just taking advantage of the hype, it's fun from start till the end.
If ya need some cartoon comedy & fun, to unwind your stressful life.. well.. angry birds 2 is for you.

RATING : 7.8/10

PS : Producer John Cohen liked my Tweet about it.

#TL2019moviewatch : Hobbs and Shaw

Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw are among the characters that got a lot of attention in the Fast & Furious franchise and as usual like any Hollywood studios, well, give them a spin-off to satisfy audience's cravings (and earn more bucks at the same time)

Let's dive into the movie. In sight, it's just pure fun & action vehicle which is typical of Dwayne Johnson & Jason Statham. Enjoyable to watch but the storyline is nothing to shout about, you know, "save-the-world" rush stuff.

Lots of action, surprising cameos and post credits to lookout for.

#TL2019moviewatch : Lion King

It could be on the list of the better live animation adaption of Disney classic. Yup, always milking our childhood.

Lion King is visually stunning. Storyline is pretty much exactly like the cartoon so nothing much to comment. James Earl Jones’ immortal voice of Mufasa is the winner there while I thought having Beyonce (as Nala) in it is so overkill, especially when she starts to sing.

I am still trying grasp the thought that Disney goes all the way to recreate the whole live animated visual. Just crazy when I think about it.

RATING : 7.8/10

#TL2019moviewatch quick reviews

Here are some quick reviews of some movies I watched recently...

Alita : battle angel
Effects are great but storyline is just alright.
Rating : 6.7/10

Always be my maybe
One of the best rom-com in recent times
Rating : 8/10

John Wick 3
critically I find it hard to pinpoint why the hype. While it's gory, I find myself laughing at the fights and puzzled at the overall storyline.
I have seen better fight scenes. also, I just feel it's like some random low budget fight movie. Maybe the only plus point of the movie is seeing Keanu Reeves, but then he is old so I cant expect him to fight freely like he was 15-20 years ago.

maybe someone needs to convinced me why it is good. Tbh, Keanu in "Always be my maybe" is much fun to watch, even his role in Toy Story 4 is memorable.

Rating : 6/10

Missing Link

It's stop-motion animated adventure. While animation is interesting and eye-catching, storyline is draggy.
Rating : 6/10

Wonder Park
A family cartoon movie which has a good storyline.
Rating : 7/10

Breakthrough
Emotional and inspirational stuff. There were a few awkward plot holes and moments (eg : that random Phil Wickham/Lecrae cameo) but I hope such genre can continue to improve in Hollywood

Rating : 6.7/10

Batman:Hush
it is one of the better Batman animated movies in recent times. Quite comic arc accurate.
Rating : 8/10

Love at First Swipe
Locally made by JinnyboyTV. Man, it's really good stuff. Malaysia BOLEH LA! tbh, we need more local shows/movies/series like this.

Rating : 8/10

#TL2019moviewatch : Spiderman : FFH

It's crowd pleaser. Wonderful closing for the MCU phase 3/Infinity Saga. IF it is not too much to say, probably the top 3 Spiderman movies for me.

Wonder blend of comedy and action. Being it's the last movie of phase 3, it connects to a lot of things throughout MCU. I would encourage you to not read what's on the internet about Spiderman story plot (both leaks or even theories). Just go and enjoy it.

tbh, my theory about Mysterio is right compare to popular internet theories. IF you follow Spiderman comics, you'll get what i mean.

and YES, post-credit scenes IS NOT TO BE MISSED! Probably one of the best post-credit scene in MCU.

Well, with one saga passed, can't wait to see what the future holds for MCU especially with phase 4 and beyond.

#TL2019moviewatch : Toy Story 4

While I feel we didn't need this movie (especially with such an ending for TS3), this Toy Story is yet another emotional wrecked movie with some dash of fun though it doesn't hit the heights of TS3 (which is quite high by everyone's standard).

Being that it is a toy-based movie, the franchise is getting overcrowded with characters after characters which by any means, it's hard to give space and development to a lot of people.

There were a few heartbreaking moments that nearly moved me to tears. That is how emotional it is. So yea, I really hope no more Toy Story movies after this. The ending is fine already. I do hope no more. Stop TOYing with my emotions, Pixar/Disney

Halfway when I was watching it, it hits me how technology have progressed over the years because the animation here really spot on. I think you can pull out the first TS movie and compare to this then tell yourself that man, tech is crazy these days...

#TL2019moviewatch : MIB international

MIB international is meh, it's bad indeed.

Can't think what stood out in it. The story is predictable. Alright, the movie is funny but it's forgettable. It's like a movie vehicle for Chris to show that he is funny guy and for Tessa to show she is tough lady. They have a great case but the dialogue and script made them underused. so yea. Poor entry to the franchise.

If there's any consolation, besides the fun, the CGI is eye-pleasing.

Can't decide which is bad :- X-Men or MIB... mmm... we will have that discussion in some time in future?

#TL2019moviewatch : Pets 2

Kinda straight forward premise where the sequel explores more on the life of pets. The stories or plots are well told in its own unique way while keeping it fun.

This movie I guess is probably more for families, pet lovers and those who have watched the first movie.

RATING : 8/10

#TL2019moviewatch : Dark Phoenix

Watching Dark Phoenix is like watching the very last episode of GOT. Underwhelming closure to the whole X-Men universe before it gets integrated into MCU, which makes me kinda sad coz have to wait and see when Kevin Feige wants to introduce mutants into MCU

A lot of things seems out of place, it feels like a shop can’t wait to finally close down. It doesn’t really improved their first attempt on the storyline aka X3

Consolation is that while it’s not the best movie, certainly not the worst entry among X-Men movie franchise. In fact, it’s better than previous outing, Apocalypse.

No post credits so you can rush off once movie ends.

If I have to choose the best X-Men movie, it will be Days of Future Past

Na.. don’t count Deadpool movies.. he is in his own class.. hahaha

#TL2019moviewatch : Godzilla : King of the Monsters

Godzilla, truly King of the Monsters. Way better than previous outing and the cinematography is wonderful. So much details to see. While it may not be cup of tea for some, it is a very satisfying outing for those who are up for monster feast, especially his bout with Ghidorah.

SPOILERS : post-credit tease of the next outing of Godzilla which many already know. After credits roll, there's another scene to catch.

For extra read, prepare yourself for the "monsterverse"

#TL2019moviewatch : Aladdin

If there’s one Disney movie I watched over and over again when I was a kid, it was Aladdin.

So when the studio decides to give a live adaption treatment too, I was interested to see how they are gonna do it.

Though it’s predictable, because they just follow most of the original script, I thought it was one of the better live adaption that Disney have tried so far. Argabah is given a lively look. Love the vibrant side of it during “prince ali” song. The standout performers for me are Will Smith and Naomi Scott where both gave a good rendition of their characters. However, both overshadowed the main guy and even the villain.

Well.. let’s see how Lion King will fare then.. another movie that I watched again and again.

RATING : 7.8/10

#TL2019moviewatch : Detective Pikachu

The movie was quite a pleasing and enjoyable movie. One of the best video game adaption movie.

The ending of the movie though, just well played.

The animation of the Pokemons is just incredible.. I love how they able to put the realistic detail to them while maintaining the original cartoon-ish details of them. No wonder everyone has high standards for Sonic.

If you are Kamen Rider fan, the actor who played KR Drive appeared in a simple cameo. For the Japanese dub of it, he is voicing as Tim Goodman.

#TL2019moviewatch : Endgame

I have read many epic comic books storylines and seen many epic superhero cartoon scenes since young. To be alive at this age to see something epic being done in #AvengersEndgame , is like the highlight of being a comic geek — it feels like Marvel comics come to life.

Really a movie of a lifetime. Lots of emotions involved. What a closure to the first decade of MCU.

RATING : man.. so hard to give... is 10/10 too much?

#TL2019moviewatch :Hellboy

Actually, my buddy best describe this movie (if you are able to read it >,<)

In fact, my thoughts echoes his review in some facts. Great CGI, but story is slightly underwhelming.

I am not a Hellboy comic fan compare to some but it does feel that David Harbour did well to make his version good.

It's bloody and gory so some caution is needed if you are going to watch

RATING : 6.8/10
