Sunday 17th Aug -
Left my home at 3pm. Reach LCCT and next thing I know, hey, it’s my 1st time flying ‘overseas’. Funny thing was, because we were carrying the Sabah Diocese’s SET APART CD, the airport crews thought we were some rock band going over to Sabah to sell our CDs. Lol.
Reach Sabah at 8pm. Went to Tanjung Aru for dinner. Then Jonathan Tse came over and took me to watch MU match. By halftime we were tired and decided not to continue. Lucky we didn’t finish the match…heard it was a disappointing 1-1 draw.
Monday 18th Aug –
After breakfast, suppose to have practice but there was no electricity. With that, postpone the practice to 2pm. Since free, we jalan jalan around those nearby shopping malls there. Ok, then 2pm practice, test their sound and all. After rest and all, at 8pm, the camp officially starts. I realize what a privilege I have…I think I m the only guy in whole Malaysia that have attended both West and Sabah Diocese camps..haha..if there’s ever such facts existed..the camp by the way has 300 plus youths attending…
Tues 19th Aug –
FCC team led the morning session. I think coz we were a different team than JonTse’s, the crowd were just starting to warmup to us. I did a workshop on videography/video production with a guy named, Jack Wong. It was fun handling those workshop but tiring for me because I keep talking/lecturing/advising n all. Well, I just input them with stuff I learn from UTAR and experience..
One of my best memories in leading worship this year. The crowd were crazy…and when we sang ‘The stand’, wow, it was a priceless sight…the crowd were just lifting their hands high up and worshipping their hearts out.
Ps Khee Vun gave talks today. Then we have this LIFE game, and from there onwards, Desmond is known as the Snake.
There was another brief electricity cut, so we shift to the Cathederal for a short worship. It was my first time leading worship in such classic environment and boy, it feels different. From this day onwards, I think a lot of the youths have open up to us, FCC team. I had chats with them and they remind so much of my hometown youths, HM and other West Malaysian kids. Ya, it’s been fun hanging out with the Sabah youths but when I pray and search inside my heart, somehow I feel my burden still lies in West Malaysia. I like what I see in Sabah and my hope is to bring it back to West Malaysia and see that same change also over here. It’s not a overnight process I know…perhaps it would take 10 years and so…but let’s see how God moves..
At night, it was talent nite…1 Minute to Fame contest. It was really fun. Everyone had a blast that time.
I overnight at Jon Tse’s house to do some recording with him. Erm, yes, I think I can share abit here on something I m working on with Jon Tse.. it is a solo album project..well..will talk more about it when times comes..
Thurs 21st Aug –
Worship was fun. Indeed it has been a great experience to worship God with the Sabah youths here. Evening, LIFE games again…I had fun hanging out with youths and giving super discounts at the my counter..haha..
Ps Sng, Jon, Ps. Christina, Rev Thiam Choy has been encouraging. I indeed blown away by their feedback and their appreciation on the FCC team helping out here in worship and other stuff. There was an aunty I crossed path with…and I was really touched and encouraged by her words. I honestly been going through some questions in my mind and her words were as though encourage me to not be dishearten and strive on and leave it to God. I wish circumstance were different when she spoke to me but despite all, I was really was encouraged by her words.
The closing session is also something I will remember. It was an encore song by Jon’s worship team and he invited us to be on stage with him. And lol, the whole atmosphere was suddenly like out from a Planetshakers concert..haha..we literally rock the place..i mean LITERALLY because the lights and the projection machine above us were shaking..haha..
I had supper outside yet again and came back, slept at 1am something..
Fri 22nd Aug -
I spent the remainding time in Sabah in Jon’s home studio. You can read what Jon thinks here. I had a good time with Jon and Jun Jun there. And ya, we finished one track already and I guess I would be back in KK again to do more songs. During the recording process, my mind keep playing back to forth and asking myself, like “God, what am I doing here?” Next thing I know I done one song already and settle some deals we made among each other. Somehow I know God has His purpose in it though..hoeply throughout this journey, I discovered more of His purpose then..I am excited though…hopely in future, you see some glimpse of my solo materials…And ya, I experience first hand that recording is not really an easy process like anyone think. It's not easy.
I also received news about Michael Guglielmucci’s case that time and it came as a shocker to me. I have to mention about here though it is sensitive coz i blogged about him before. That time i was still in Jon's place and we were discussing the matter abit. I dun think the mature ones will be affected but kinda worried what other people will think.
I left Sabah at 6.30pm. When I left, I had a bittersweet feeling…glad that I had a great time in KK but little sad that good things must end and erm, feel pitiful to be alone broading the plane home. Like I wish someone would accompany me or at least sent me off.
And darn, on the way home, I experience turbulence on my flight. +_+
Overall, it was a great experience for me in Sabah. Somehow in my heart, I felt that greater things is yet to come, greater things is yet to begun. It’s exciting and I hope to see what God has planned for everyone else…
The faces of Sabah youths will always be in my memories. I m glad that we made an impact in their lives and I hope we did our bit in inspiring them to serve God with their talents and gifts.
Thanks Mike, Grace, Gabriel, Theodore, Danny, Gracy, YiWen, Jovina for the support and the great team effort. Special thanks to Desmond ‘the Snake’ Chong for all the arrangement..where we will be without you man..you are one great tour manager..haha..
When I flew home, I got this sense there would be more traveling opportunites. If really so, I m so looking forward to it and exicted about it. I know it wouldn’t be easy but hey indeed it is a challenging lifestyle…
Look out for more photos..will post more soon. And lookout for a so-called video blog soon, i think because of my workshop, i suddenly inspired to make videos again. I used to post videos here, those who follow my blog during the early days of this blog will know. haha.
Praise God for everything. It was an incredible journey.
Much love.
