The premiere was held in GSC One Utama. After a tutorial class, I and a few coursemates went there for lunch first before watching the movie.
Like any red carpet premiere, I decided to flash out my camera..yupz, things you do when you have camera. I didnt spend my money for nothing ok..haha. But took a few considering the place was packed with people. Here’s the equation.. you have my class which has nearly 80 people plus other classes and teachers plus press people and other audiences..

No red carpet la..i just overexaggerating it only.haha.

Here’s another Aaron that I know. How many Aarons I know in my life…

My class nicknamed him Jay Chou coz somehow he looks like him and he also a big Jay fan.

Some guys in my course. The guy next to Jay Chou-wannabe, is actually JiaYi/JiaLerd’s cousin or Bishop Ng’s nephew. I realized that fact like in my second year of my course..somewhere year 2 semester 1. What are the odds man..studying together with your church friend’s cousin. I know since the start of sem he is from Kelantan and surname Ding but it never crosses my mind that it’s JiaYi’s cousin.
The ticket I got..dengzz..i was placed in the second roll in front. =_=
Is the first time I able to take in a camera and flash around…until when movie played la. Is better I kept it..yea..i saw one security shouted at someone somewhere behind to keep his/her camera. And come on, let's support local stuff..somemore I m in the second roll ..cant record one s*** la and I dun have all the energy in the world to hold my camera that long..and so does the battery power. Haha

And it’s the second time I get free premiere movie pass. First was when I was still training with Bernama, I watched Surf Up for free.

Here’s the guy who supplies me all the LOST episodes for my watching pleasure and his gf that we used to nicknamed her Crazy Frog. Of coz now I dun dare to call her that. Haha.
Movie itself..like any other history themed movie..is long..2 hours plus. Pity me for sitting second role..sometimes I was abit restless.
If reading history books in school bores you, perhaps watching this movie makes you understand it better. I guess the industry has high hopes on this movie, considering this year is our 50th Merdeka anniversary. The movie was good..for a local produced movie.
All the who’s who in the local entertainment scene is featured in the movie. Maya Karin, Sharifah Amani, Douglas Lim, Joanna Bessey, and a few more Malay actors/actresses that are well-known is Malay films. Dato’ Siti Nurhaliza sung the theme song. So that explained how big the movie is.
Basically it starts with 5 friends working on a book project that compiles the history of Malaysia. There are a series of flashbacks as they talk about their research, which focuses on Dato’ Onn, founder of UMNO and the first Malaysian PM, Tunku Abdul Rahman. There is a subplot within the flashback, where a group of villagers preparing themselves to embrace the spirit of Merdeka. In short, there are many characters involved in the movie so you gotta keep track with it. From present time to the past.
What makes the movie so effective was the soundtrack. It was the soundtrack that gave life and emotions to the movie. If wasn’t for the soundtrack, it will be very dull.
Like any history movies you watch from Hollywood, there’s a sub-plot of some romance conflict in the village. You know..ala Pearl Harbour or Titanic. I felt the conflict was lame, so I think I rather have them focusing on Dato’ Onn and Tunku Abdul Rahman more.
It’s a good local movie in terms of bringing patriotic spirit. It’s first time I m in the cinema where the crowd clapped after the movie. Whether they clap because it’s good or a sign of appreciation..i duno. Haha.
Hope next time my class gets more movie premiere. I dun care it’s local or not. Haha.
