#TL2020moviewatch : Birds of Prey

First #TL2020moviewatch review goes to Birds of Prey : the Emancipation of Harley Quinn..
Quite a mouthful title, so I don't blame ya all for just calling it - Harley Quinn movie. Admit it, you all did so.. even myself.

Well, the movie.. turns out.. it proved me wrong because I thought it will be a mess. Instead, it was quite entertaining.

While it's feels like watching Deadpool (but a DCEU version), the movie was surprisingly enjoyable.
It right the wrongs and mess that (the first) Suicide Squad made, especially the execution of story and even, the music is on point. Margot Robbie totally killing it as Harley Quinn. I must say I really enjoyed her character here. You get to see the different side of her character.
Ewan McGregor is another standout performance as Black Mask. Strong supporting cast too, as it does give some substance to the movie, which is good for a comic-based/inspired movie.

I applaud the way they flow from Suicide Squad story without being burden down by it while able to establish its own story
I guess that's why it titled "Emancipation", in that perspective. Google the meaning and you will get what I mean. While the story of Harley may seems to reflect that meaning, the same can be said about the whole movie.
Another standout for me is how the narrative flowed. I loved how they tell the overall story. It's creative and makes you glued to it.

Lots of action scenes so yes, you get to see Harley Quinn kicking a lot.

TL rates : 8/10

PG-13 btw, with lots of swearing. Not-kids-friendly movie so you don't need Deadpool to tell you that. Ah haha.

On the bigger picture, DCEU is slowing winning fans and critics alike. Yes, another win after favourable reviews for Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Shazam. No, you don't count Joaquin Phoenix's Joker in this category yo.

I may not like why they wanna titled it B.O.P when clearly Harley Quinn is the lead, but if you understand DC Comics folklore, by the end of the movie you will onlly get that B.O.P nod.

Let's see how her character flows into the next Suicide Squad movie.

POST-credit scene : yes, they have.. here's the spoiler, if you are not fond of movie gags, then don't stay for it.
