It's my personal review of MU's 2011/12 campaign..
MU started the season with so much promise and fire but as times goes by, there were many hiccups and bumpy rides that eventually sees them finished with only Charity Shield to show. Before you go debating with me, hey, it's still a decent trophy no matter how you see it.
Well, who could never forget how the EPL title fight was so tight that MU finished level points with Man City but lost the title due to goal difference. Yes, in many years of EPL history, it's quite some time that goal difference has to well, made the difference who is the champion.
Just a short look back at the first half of the season when MU was totally on fire -- winning games like mad and who could not forget how they totally dismantled Arsenal 8-2. Goals were just flying in...
Until injuries to key players greatly affected United's run especially injury to Vidic.
There were moments in second half of the season that MU was on the roll again but then sometimes hiccups happened which caused us dearly. Short runs in cup competitions and disappointing European campaign kind of sums it all up.
MU fought tooth and nail with Man City for the title till the very last minute of football for the title and yea, we know what happen.
Anyway, well done Manchester City this season. Will expect a tough fight with them in seasons to come.
There were few memorable goals and moments during MU's season -- some from Rooney, Nani and Ashley Young.
The major happening in MU's season for me was the return of Paul Scholes and his return did made a big difference in MU's game.
When he returned, I was a bit skeptical about it especially when his first return game was quite average. I did wondered why he choose to return??
Soon, I was proven wrong by him and see his influence has kept MU steady. There was some stats saying each time he played, MU played very well. His partnership with Carrick was crucial when most of MU midfielders were down with serious injury especially Anderson, Cleverley, Fletcher.
My verdict on De Gea, Jones, Young -- the new signings did well and I think they can only get better and better as seasons come.
De Gea, after much critics, he seems to get better. Hope we can see more of his talent and show why Sir Alex signed him.
Phil Jones started his MU debut season with much promise but faded in the end... hope he can improve to be a better player.
Ashley Young had a good season too.. scoring awesome goals.
My player of the season -- well, I would agree with most opinions and polls that Antonio Valencia had a great season. His great runs often a treat to oppositions and his goals were important as well.
Other players did have major influence in the team. Wayne Rooney as always, influential. His goals did give MU some edge in some major matches. I am surprise with Welbeck's run in the team and sometimes I see why Sir Alex prefers him to Berbatov and Chicharito. He needs to improve his play a bit but all in all, what a talent MU have.
Rio Ferdinand started the season quite badly for me but towards end of the season, you can see why Sir Alex still rates him highly. Too bad he is not going Euro 2012. Jonny Evans deserve a mention here, after a bad season last year, this season he steps up to the challenge well especially when Vidic is injured badly.
All in all, MU can be better as the team rebuilds. Believe we can do well next season.
At the time of typing, Owen just left MU. Sad to read that because I love him to play more for MU but he has terrible luck with his injury. I don't blame Sir Alex for letting him go, MU have to move on.
Few rumours of incoming players.. let's see how times goes by...
Till next seasons comes and after all the summer tournament is done...
GLORY GLORY MU!
